The VCA Internship & Externship Students Program 2025 offers a unique opportunity for veterinary students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in animal healthcare. Interns and externs will work under the guidance of experienced veterinarians and technicians in VCA hospitals, gaining hands-on exposure to veterinary medicine, animal care, diagnostics, and client communication. This program is ideal for those pursuing a career in veterinary science and animal care, providing invaluable real-world training that complements academic studies.

 

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in daily tasks, including patient exams, diagnostics, and treatments.
  • Support the preparation and handling of animals for surgeries, dental cleanings, and other procedures.
  • Conduct patient intake, gather medical history, and communicate with pet owners under supervision.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, including sterilization of tools and sanitation of work areas.
  • Observe and practice basic procedures such as lab tests, vaccinations, and wound care under professional supervision.
  • Participate in case discussions, rounds, and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Provide compassionate care and ensure the comfort and well-being of animal patients.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited veterinary school (DVM or equivalent) or veterinary technician program.
  • Strong academic record in relevant coursework, especially in anatomy, physiology, and animal health.
  • Demonstrated interest in animal care, medicine, and client communication.
Experience
  • Prior experience in a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, or related setting is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience working with animals and handling various breeds and species safely and compassionately.
  • Familiarity with veterinary tools, medical terminology, and standard procedures is advantageous.
