Description

The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Internship for Graduate Students 2025 is an enriching program designed to provide hands-on experience in environmental science, research, and policy. Graduate students will have the opportunity to work on projects related to oceanography, meteorology, climate science, marine biology, environmental policy, and data science. This internship allows students to contribute to NOAA’s mission of understanding and conserving our oceans, atmosphere, and ecosystems while fostering knowledge and research skills essential for future careers in environmental and scientific fields.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and data analysis to support NOAA’s ongoing environmental and climate projects.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of fieldwork studies, surveys, and data collection processes.
  • Collaborate with NOAA scientists on the development of climate, ocean, or atmospheric models.
  • Prepare research reports, presentations, and scientific summaries for both internal and public audiences.
  • Participate in team meetings, briefings, and outreach events related to NOAA’s work.
  • Support NOAA’s communication efforts by developing educational materials or social media content.
  • Assist with administrative and logistical support for field projects or laboratory work as required.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or Ph.D.) in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Data Science, Environmental Policy, or a related field.
  • Strong academic record with a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Demonstrated interest in environmental science, research, or policy.
Experience
  • Prior internship or research experience in environmental sciences, fieldwork, laboratory work, or data analysis is preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with scientific data analysis software or tools, such as R, Python, or GIS, is advantageous.
  • Experience working on group projects and collaborative research initiatives.
Skills
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with a focus on environmental or climate data.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with scientific programming languages (e.g., Python, R) or GIS tools.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating reports, presentations, and public-facing materials.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in managing scientific data and research findings.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a research or policy environment.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to handle various research tasks, fieldwork, and laboratory responsibilities.
