Description
The purpose of the LANL Undergraduate Internship Program is to provide students with the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge to real-world research and engineering challenges in a national laboratory setting. This internship fosters professional growth and prepares students for careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Responsibilities
As an intern at LANL, your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with research, development, and testing in fields such as physics, chemistry, computer science, and engineering.
- Supporting laboratory experiments, data collection, and analysis.
- Collaborating with scientists and engineers on ongoing research projects.
- Utilizing scientific and engineering software for data analysis and simulations.
- Preparing research reports, presentations, and documentation.
- Participating in technical meetings, workshops, and lab safety trainings.
Qualifications
- Enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program in a STEM field (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics).
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate coursework by the start of the internship.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
Experience
- Prior experience in a laboratory or research setting, including coursework, is preferred but not required.
- Previous internships, research assistantships, or relevant projects are a plus.
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, MATLAB) is advantageous.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
