The FMCSA Internship Program for Recent Graduates is designed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of the insurance and compliance requirements critical to the transportation industry. Interns will support the Insurance Division’s mission by assisting in research, policy analysis, and project management tasks that contribute to enhancing safety within the motor carrier industry.
- Conduct research and analysis on insurance requirements, compliance standards, and transportation safety data.
- Assist in the review and evaluation of insurance filings submitted by motor carriers to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and policy briefs to support regulatory initiatives and decision-making processes.
- Participate in team meetings, regulatory discussions, and training sessions on transportation safety and insurance policies.
- Provide administrative support to the Insurance Division, including document preparation, data entry, and maintaining organized records.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on special projects that promote safer highways and improve the efficacy of FMCSA regulations.
- Support ongoing efforts to enhance public awareness and understanding of insurance requirements in the transportation industry.
- Recent graduate (within the last 24 months) with a bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Administration, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Strong academic standing, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.
- Demonstrated interest in public safety, regulatory compliance, or transportation policy.
- Prior internship or relevant experience in insurance, compliance, or risk management is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with regulatory or government processes is an advantage.
- Excellent research and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
