Description

The FEC Intelligence Internship Program is designed for students interested in exploring the field of election security, intelligence analysis, and regulatory compliance. This program offers hands-on experience with the FEC’s efforts to monitor, secure, and analyze election-related intelligence. Interns will work alongside FEC professionals to assist in tracking potential threats, evaluating data on campaign finance, and supporting investigative initiatives to uphold transparency and integrity in U.S. federal elections. This role is ideal for students interested in careers in intelligence, cybersecurity, public policy, or law enforcement.

Responsibilities
  • Data Analysis: Assist in collecting, interpreting, and analyzing data related to election security, campaign finance, and compliance with federal election laws.
  • Research Support: Conduct research on election-related threats, foreign influence, cyber threats, and trends in digital disinformation affecting federal elections.
  • Report Preparation: Draft and contribute to reports on intelligence findings, campaign finance anomalies, and enforcement issues.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Help monitor compliance with FEC regulations and campaign finance laws, identifying irregularities in filings and disclosures.
  • Collaboration with Departments: Work with other FEC teams, including cybersecurity and legal affairs, to support a holistic approach to intelligence and election security.
  • Assist Investigations: Support investigations by providing background research, summarizing findings, and preparing case materials for review by senior staff.
Qualifications
  • Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college or university, with a focus on Political Science, International Relations, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice, Data Science, or a related field.
  • GPA: Minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).
Experience
  • Relevant Coursework: Courses in data analysis, political science, cybersecurity, or intelligence studies are advantageous.
  • Previous Experience: Any prior internship, research, or work experience in government, intelligence, cybersecurity, or public policy is beneficial but not required.
Skills
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to identify trends, patterns, and potential security threats.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis tools or cybersecurity software is a plus.
  • Research Skills: Ability to conduct detailed research and summarize complex information for varied audiences.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and presenting findings to FEC staff.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to assist in identifying and reporting compliance issues and data discrepancies.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities in a dynamic intelligence environment.
