The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is seeking highly motivated graduate students for its 2025 Internship Graduate Program. Responsibilities
Graduate interns will have the chance to engage in a wide range of tasks, depending on their area of expertise and the specific DOE office or laboratory to which they are assigned. Responsibilities may include:
- Conducting research on emerging energy technologies, policy, and sustainability efforts.
- Assisting in the development and analysis of energy policies and regulations.
- Collaborating on projects related to clean energy, energy efficiency, environmental protection, or national security.
- Supporting the evaluation and assessment of energy-related data, reports, and scientific publications.
- Preparing technical documents, presentations, and research papers for internal and external stakeholders.
- Participating in interdisciplinary team meetings, conferences, and workshops to share ideas and solutions.
- Engaging in hands-on laboratory work, field studies, or technical assistance projects, depending on the assigned office or lab.

Qualifications
- Education: Must be currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s or Doctoral level) in a relevant field, such as energy policy, engineering, environmental science, public administration, physics, or related disciplines.
- Academic Requirements: A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is preferred.
- Citizenship: U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Specialization: Students with a background in energy systems, renewable energy, environmental policy, nuclear engineering, or data science are encouraged to apply.
Experience
- Previous internship or work experience in the energy sector, public policy, research, or related fields is preferred but not required.
- Academic coursework or research experience related to energy technologies, environmental studies, or policy analysis is highly beneficial.
Skills
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R, or Excel) is preferred for technical-focused interns.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex concepts to a variety of audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of energy systems, environmental regulations, or sustainability practices is a plus.
