Description

The Amtrak Police Summer Internship Program provides graduate students (anticipated graduation in 2025) an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in law enforcement operations, safety, security, and public service in a dynamic transportation environment. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work alongside Amtrak's dedicated police officers and security personnel, learning about the daily responsibilities and challenges they face in safeguarding Amtrak's passengers, employees, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Amtrak Police officers in the execution of law enforcement duties, including patrolling stations and trains, ensuring the safety and security of passengers and employees.
  • Support the development and implementation of security protocols and safety measures.
  • Observe and assist with investigations, including gathering information, processing reports, and contributing to case follow-ups.
  • Participate in community engagement and crime prevention initiatives within the Amtrak network.
  • Conduct research on security technology, trends, and best practices in law enforcement related to transportation systems.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support for various Amtrak Police operations.
Qualifications
  • Graduate student (anticipated graduation in 2025) pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Homeland Security, Public Safety, or a related field.
  • Strong academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine interest in law enforcement, public safety, and the transportation industry.
  • Available for full-time work during the summer internship period (specific dates will be provided).
  • Must possess the ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
Experience
  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in law enforcement, security, or public safety is a plus, but not required.
  • Any coursework or training related to criminal justice, safety protocols, or emergency response is beneficial.
Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and professionalism.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment.
