The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Internship Program 2025 is designed to provide college students with hands-on experience in the maritime and engineering industries. This program offers a unique opportunity to work with experts in the field and gain exposure to the technical, regulatory, and operational aspects of ABS’s work in ensuring the safety and integrity of the marine and offshore industries. Responsibilities
  • Assist in various engineering, research, and development projects related to the maritime and offshore sectors.
  • Support teams in conducting technical analyses, simulations, and testing for vessels and offshore structures.
  • Collaborate with professionals to review and develop technical documentation and reports.
  • Participate in safety and compliance inspections, as well as assist with regulatory research and implementation.
  • Contribute to project management tasks by tracking timelines, maintaining records, and supporting team communications.
  • Attend team meetings, workshops, and training sessions to understand ABS’s role in the maritime industry.
  • Assist with the development and review of technical specifications, standards, and guidelines for ships, marine equipment, and offshore structures.
  • Perform market research and data analysis to support business development and strategic planning.
  • Shadow experienced engineers and managers to learn about ABS's operations, corporate culture, and the industries it serves.
  • Support administrative tasks related to the coordination and management of projects.
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Must be a student in good academic standing with an expected graduation date of 2025 or later.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Experience
  • Previous internship or project experience in engineering, maritime, or related technical fields is a plus but not required.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles and maritime safety regulations.
Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software tools.
