The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated interns to join our 2025 Research Trainee Program. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in environmental research and policy development. As an EPA Research Trainee, you will work alongside experts in environmental science and policy to support cutting-edge research projects aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and public health.
As a Research Trainee, you will be involved in a variety of projects and tasks, including but not limited to:
- Assisting with environmental research studies and data analysis on topics such as air quality, water resources, climate change, and hazardous waste management.
- Conducting literature reviews to support ongoing research and policy development.
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing environmental data using various software tools.
- Preparing reports, presentations, and scientific papers summarizing findings.
- Participating in fieldwork, lab analysis, and environmental impact assessments.
- Collaborating with EPA staff and external partners on ongoing environmental projects.
- Supporting the development of policy recommendations based on research findings.
- Attending seminars, workshops, and meetings related to environmental research and policy.
- Enrollment in or recent completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Public Health, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong academic background and interest in environmental protection, sustainability, and scientific research.
- Good understanding of environmental laws, regulations, and policies is a plus.
- Previous research experience or participation in internships, projects, or volunteer work related to environmental science, policy, or sustainability is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SPSS, R, Python) is an advantage.
- Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Familiarity with environmental data collection and analysis tools is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); additional software skills are a plus.
