Description
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Internship Program provides students with hands-on experience in the operations and management of one of North America’s most vital maritime routes. As an intern, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the smooth functioning of the Seaway, learning about the complexities of maritime transport, infrastructure, environmental stewardship, and public safety. This program is designed to develop the next generation of maritime and transport industry leaders by providing real-world experience in the field.
Responsibilities
- Operations Support: Assist in day-to-day operations of the Seaway, supporting various departments including traffic management, infrastructure maintenance, and operational planning.
- Data Analysis: Participate in data collection, analysis, and reporting to assist in optimizing seaway operations and enhancing operational efficiency.
- Project Assistance: Collaborate on ongoing projects related to environmental sustainability, safety improvements, and engineering upgrades.
- Administrative Tasks: Aid in record-keeping, preparing reports, and documenting key operational metrics for management review.
- Safety and Compliance: Observe and ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies, learning from experienced professionals in safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with teams from different departments, such as Engineering, Operations, and Environmental Affairs, to gain a holistic understanding of Seaway operations.
Qualifications
- Education: Current enrollment in an accredited college or university program, with a focus in Maritime Management, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
- GPA: Minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent).
Experience
- Academic or Extracurricular Projects: Experience working on projects related to logistics, transportation, environmental management, or business administration is a plus.
- Internships: Previous internships or work experience in related fields are beneficial but not required.
Skills
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and propose solutions for operational improvement.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Knowledge of data visualization tools is a plus.
